CUIFF Honored at Ebertfest

Ebertfest invited CUIFF to participate in Ebertfest's first ever Short Film Program. Ebertfest, which ran from April 19 - 22, 2023, at the historic Virginia Theater in downtown Champaign, featured Club Alli by filmmakers Julien and Justen Turner that was showcased at CUIFF’s inaugural festival last year. On Saturday, April 22, the Turner brothers and CUIFF’s founder and director, Max Libman, spoke at this premiere program.

Community Engagement

Provided Free Student Tickets

To further its mission to educate the next generation of filmmakers and foster community engagement, CUIFF provided free tickets to students at the Boys & Girls Club, Jack and Jill, and Franklin STEAM Academy. The students attended the Ebertfest screening, listened to the Q&A, and had the opportunity to talk one-on-one with Julien and Justen after the event.  

CUIFF also participated in the Chaz and Roger Ebert Symposium that took place on Wednesday, April 19th, 2023, at the Illini Union. The event was presented by the Roger Ebert Center for Film Studies at the University of Illinois College of Media. CUIFF’s Libman participated in a roundtable discussion on “Cinema and Violence in Challenging Times”. The discussion was moderated by Professor Jenny Oyallon-Koloski and other panelists include Edson Oda, director of Nine DaysBrenda Robinson, producer of Marian Anderson: The Whole World in Her Hands, and Jason Michael Berman, president of Mandalay Pictures.
